Meet John Rougthon & Spirit of Faith International
We recently sat down with John Rougthon, Founder and President of John Rougthon Ministries, Inc., doing business as Spirit of Faith International, to learn more about a ministry that has been serving communities both in the United States and around the world for more than three decades.
John’s ministry began in Northeast India in 1994 with the planting of a church. Since then, that work has grown to include a school, additional churches, and outreach efforts that continue to impact lives throughout the region. More recently, the ministry has expanded into other countries, including Nepal, England, and Hungary, where John continues to encourage and equip churches through international ministry.
One of the highlights John shared was seeing the next generation step into leadership — his daughter now helping lead the ministry, church, and school in Northeast India while he continues international outreach.

Can you tell us who you are, what your nonprofit is, and what your mission is?

His advice is encouraging: don’t let the process intimidate you. With the right guidance, becoming a nonprofit can be much more straightforward than many people expect.

What would you say to someone who is unsure about starting a nonprofit?
John encourages future founders to clearly define their mission, do the groundwork they can, and simply keep moving forward. Every successful organization begins by taking that first step.

Throughout our conversation, John expressed gratitude for having a partner who helped make the process manageable, allowing him to continue focusing on the work he feels called to do around the world.
