

John is passionate about entrepreneurship and business development.
Like many entrepreneurs, he has launched both successful and failed businesses. A true believer in “failing forward”, John looks for new opportunities in every situation. This mentality allows him to connect with entrepreneurs and business owners in a meaningful way to help them navigate difficulties and grow their success.

Outside of his practice of law, John serves as Past-Chairman of the Board for Roc Solid Foundation, a local non-profit that builds hope for families fighting pediatric cancer. John also served the City of Chesapeake as a Planning Commissioner for five years, including leadership roles as Secretary and Vice-Chairman. In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors and loves spending time with his wife, three kids, and two yellow labs.
John graduated from Regent University School of Law in 2010, where he served as Chairman of the Moot Court Board and a member of the Student Leader Advisory Board. After law school, John found his niche practicing real estate and business law throughout Virginia and North Carolina.
In real estate, John has experience representing investors, developers, builders, banks, lenders, and individual home buyers in a variety of transactions. He has handled transactions involving shopping centers, apartment complexes, retail stores, restaurants, and hotels.
John’s business practice ranges from advising entrepreneurs to assisting established business owners in mergers, acquisitions, contracts, litigation and dispute resolution. He has worked with a variety of businesses ranging from small startups to an international multi-billion dollar corporation.
John is licensed to practice law in both Virginia and North Carolina.

Emma is from Norfolk, Virginia and excited to be back in her hometown after practicing law in North Carolina for two years.
She graduated from New York University in 2012 with a degree in Political Science and Environmental Studies. She then worked in the legal and non-profit worlds, gaining experience before law school. Emma received her J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2019, where she was Online Editor and a published staff writer for the Journal of Law & Policy, a member of the Community Law and Business Clinic, and a two-time recipient of the Hopkins Pro Humanitate Summer Grant. She also served as summer intern for the Honorable S. Bernard Goodwyn Jr. of the Virginia Supreme Court. Emma became a member of the North Carolina Bar in 2019 and worked as a Staff Attorney for Legal Aid of North Carolina, where she advocated for the rights of low-income community members.
When she’s not at work, Emma enjoys live music, browsing local bookstores, and spending time with her newest family member, a rescue cat named Ruby.
Emma is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Virginia.


Steven Thomas
Steven is a Virginia native, excited to serve clients through litigation in Hampton Roads.
Steven graduated from the Regent University School of Law, where he was awarded the Corporate, Commercial & Transactional Law Award and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Foundation Trial Advocacy Award. While at Regent Law, Steven served as the President of the Business Law Society and Chairman of the Trial Advocacy Board, where he led Regent Law to a National Trial Advocacy Championship.
Steven joins the team with a focus on litigation in the following areas: business & corporate, shareholder and owner disputes, property disputes, breach of contract, business conspiracy, fraud & conversion, and traffic defense.
Steven and his wife Savannah invest in their local church, and love spending time with their puppy dog, Hank. You can find the Thomas family at the beach, a coffee shop, or any of Virginia Beach’s beautiful parks!
Steven is licensed to practice law in Virginia.



Patrick Trompeter
Pat is originally from Oklahoma and worked as a pastor and a construction project manager before pursuing law.
His previous careers directly influence how he serves clients on a daily basis. Although Pat is relationship-driven, he is also fueled by acquiring tangible results for his clients.
Simply put, Pat loves helping people.
Pat has legal experience in real estate, business, transactions and litigation. Pat enjoys helping clients achieve their goals through institutional knowledge and creativity.
After graduating with Honors from Regent University School of Law, Pat, his wife and three children planted roots in Hampton Roads – spending many of their weekends on the water or at the beach. Pat and his family feel blessed to call Virginia Beach home, and he looks forward to getting to know you and serving you with excellence.
Pat is licensed to practice law in Virginia and also serves as Director of Law School Advancement at Regent University School of Law.


Taylor Howington
Taylor Howington is a key member of the McCormick Law & Consulting family who focuses on providing industry leading customer experience.
She has been a fantastic addition to our team. Taylor is very knowledgeable and has a passion for providing excellent customer service.
Taylor has years of real estate experience where she had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients around the Raleigh, North Carolina market working through diverse transactions all while providing a very personable and tailored customer service experience. Additionally, Taylor managed the day to day operations of a small business in North Carolina where she further developed her client management and customer relations experience.
As Operations Manager of McCormick Law & Consulting, Taylor is laser focused on providing the absolute best client experience for every one of our clients.



Cynthia McCormick
Cynthia’s background is in Accounting and Finance, with several years of a career in internal audit compliance work.
She has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Liberty University in Accounting and started her career doing audits and tax work at Goodman & Company (now Dixon Hughes Goodman). After several years in public accounting, she took an internal audit compliance position at Anthem Inc where she focused on SOX and SOC1 compliance and reporting. After her third baby, she left her role at Anthem for a part time position with McCormick Law. She’s seen McCormick Law & Consulting from the beginning and is excited to “officially” be part of the team.


Jordan Dixon
Jordan is from Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is happy to be back home after serving in the Air Force, as a meteorologist, most recently stationed in Hawaii.
Her deep love for understanding the world around her led her to meteorology. While in Hawaii, she received her first Air Force Achievement Medal at 19 for outstanding forecasting during adverse conditions at the Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska air show.
Jordan also loves providing stellar customer service! She describes that her position at McCormick Law is similar to her active-duty time, however, now instead of pilots, she helps clients. Jordan is currently attending TCC to pursue her degree in paralegal studies.
In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and hanging out with her pug, Kiwi.
