BEHIND THE MISSION

Helping D-Feet Cancer Turn a Promise Into a Nonprofit

After losing their son, Dalton, to Ewing Sarcoma in 2021, Will and Jen Fox wanted to do something to help other children and families facing pediatric cancer. That commitment became D-Feet Cancer, the Dalton Fox Foundation. McCormick Law & Consulting helped Will and Jen establish the nonprofit and create a legal foundation for the work ahead.

More Than a Business

When Will and Jen team first sat down with John McCormick, they expected to talk about starting a nonprofit. But the conversation quickly became personal.

Jen remembers being asked about Dalton first. That question showed her that our team wanted to understand the person and the mission behind the organization, not just the business of establishing it.
“When you first asked me about Dalton, I knew that you weren’t there for business.”

3 Takeaways From Their Nonprofit Journey

A Personal Mission Can Become a Lasting Legacy

Will and Jen started D-Feet Cancer after losing their son, Dalton, making a promise to keep fighting for children like him. What began as a deeply personal commitment became an organization dedicated to advancing pediatric cancer research and carrying Dalton’s name forward.

You Don’t Have to Know Where to Start

Will and Jen were candid that they didn’t know anything about starting a nonprofit when they began. Their experience is a reminder that you don’t have to have every answer before taking the first step. With the right guidance and support, an idea can become an organization built to serve others.

The Right Support Helps You Focus on the Mission

Starting a nonprofit involves more than having a cause you believe in. Will and Jen shared how having experienced legal guidance helped them establish the foundation and gave them the confidence to focus on what mattered most: raising awareness, building community, and funding pediatric cancer research.
